Finding Inspiration for Your Writing
Having just returned from a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, I find it hard to find the words to describe such beauty. Ethereal, haunting, lyrical, dazzling, sensuous, gossamer, transcendent, nonpareil, vivid, intoxicating, melodic, reigning, inexhaustible, come to mind. But none really express the feelings I had when I gazed at these natural, splendid landscapes.
Instead of struggling to find the right words, I thought I’d share some of the photographs I took. If nature can inspire words befitting these views in your mind, I encourage you to share them.
Lynne, just something I want to share with you and your followers.
An exercise I learned a lot from is describing the surroundings from the mood of the character. The wooden house, for example, “looks different” from the perspective from: – someone who seeks a hiding place from criminals
– two ten year old boys who look for adventure
– a husband and wife who take a stroll and lost a child a week ago
– a woman who just won a million in a lottery
– etc.
This exercise helped me a lot to set mood and pace in scenes.
This is a terrific exercise for writers! Thanks for sharing, Leonardo.
I was supposed to go next year, but was having second thoughts. You have rekindled my desire to go.
Go, Joe, go. You won’t be sorry.
MAJESTIC…..
Joe don’t falter…GO
Hi, I was going to send you some of my Mom’s photos. I just don’t know how! Your photos are quite lovely.

Thanks for sharing these awe-inspiring photos! Being out in nature always gets my creative juices flowing. Sometimes when I’m stuck, that’s all it takes to get it going again.
I love that exercise Leonardo shared – very cool!
Thanks, Indy. Nature is truly inspiring.
Great photos! Can’t wait to go to both parks some day. Definitely very close to the top of my list.
And that sounds like a great exercise, Leonardo.
Thanks, Paul. Yosemite is still my favorite!
